Smoking persuasive writing by Alex L

14 February        Goal: to write an argument.
Smoking should be banned altogether!
I think smoking all over the world should be banned, for good! Smoking makes you high and relaxed, but what about the rest of the world, breathing in all of your poisonous fumes?  One day I hope Earth will be smoke free, for the best of us and Earth.

Smoking is very bad for your lungs. Every time you have a smoke you lose 10 minutes of your lifespan, your lungs will slowly but surely stop working, reason being you put about 4,000 chemicals in your lungs, including some tars which dry up. These chemicals also cause cancer. 2 million people have died from smoking in the last year.

Children whose parents smoked are twice as likely to begin smoking between ages 13 and 21 as offspring of nonsmokers. Smoking gives a bad influence to kids because they think they look cool.  Some kids also think their parents look cool, but they really aren’t. We need to help our kids.
Also smokers are really ugly. Smoking a pack of cigarettes a day makes you look 1.4 times older than non smokers, it also makes you uglier. Smoking gives you bad breath, dirty teeth, gives you a lot of wrinkles, makes you extremely ugly, and lots more side effects. Don’t make yourself look ugly!

Stopping smoking isn’t easy, but remember, you can potentially die or get your kids into drugs, and make yourself look extremely ugly.  By smoking, you’re doing something bad for yourself and for everyone else around you. You can stop, like everyone else around you, or you will die. If you are a non-smoker then help out a smoker; get him to quit. If you are a smoker then ask someone to help you stop smoking. If everyone helps out, then we could have a world without smokers, killing theirs and other people’s lives.

  1. Hi Alex
I think your arguments for banning smoking are very persuasive! It sounds like you really mean what you write!
Much improved content, sentencing, paragraphing and accuracy!
